Adult Mental Health Services (AMHT) – Oxford & North East Oxon
Overview
Adult Mental Health Teams (AMHT) are multi-disciplinary community mental health services that provide care and treatment to adults experiencing complex mental health issues.
The teams are made up of a variety of individuals making them multi disciplinary, including psychiatrists, psychologists, community psychiatric nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and support workers, providing the individual with a whole range of support.
How to Access this Service
Access to AMHT services typically begins with a referral, which can be made by:
GPs, other healthcare professionals, or social workers.
Internal teams such as CRHTT (Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team), EDPS (Emergency Department Psychiatric Service based at the John Radcliffe Hospital), for urgent cases.
When/Where?
The AMHT operate under the community mental health framework, focusing on recovery-oriented, person-centred care. AMHTs provide people the support they need to continue a full and active life in the community and work closely with GPs, service users and carers, and other key partners to achieve this. AMHTs also provide AMHT-based psychology services and Reablement.
Who is it for?
18-65
They provide core mental health services in the community to adults of working age (between 18 – 65 years) with serious mental health problems.
These problems can range from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, postnatal depression and other depressive disorders, to enduring anxiety and personality disorders.
