Brookes Sport and Active Wellness is the home of sport and active wellness at Oxford Brookes University, offering recreational and competitive sport and leisure opportunities for students, staff and the local community.

We support everyone to try something new, improve fitness or push limits. Our activities and facilities suit all interests and abilities and our team is happy to help, so get in touch to find out more or visit us for a chat.

We also offer support for student-athletes through our Sport Support Team, the first point of contact for advice, guidance or raising concerns. We recognise the pressures student-athletes face, from balancing training and study to managing stress and wellbeing. Our wellbeing support helps students stay healthy, confident and able to perform at their best on and off the field.

Park Sports Centre is situated in between the villages of Wheatley and Holton in South Oxfordshire – easily accessible from the A40, and plays an active part in the local community. The centre boasts a spacious, modern gym facility along with a varied fitness class programme. There are also 3 squash courts, a five court sports hall, a large dance studio and a therapy room. Making better choices today can have a big impact on an individuals health. One You is here to help the person get healthier and feel better with free tips, tools and support. Whether it’s moving more, eating more healthily or checking well-being, One You can help the individual make small, practical changes that fit in with their schedule.

Green Gyms are free outdoor sessions where you will be guided in practical activities such as planting trees, sowing meadows and establishing wildlife ponds. Unlike other conservation projects, the emphasis is very much on health and fitness – volunteers warm up and cool down in preparation for a range of light to vigorous activities to suit all abilities. By taking part, participants are encouraged to make positive changes to their lifestyle, such as walking and cycling more.

 

EMBS offers a range of courses to help individuals raise their confidence, develop new skills, find employment and progress onto further or higher education. EMBS also runs a weekly Youth Club for 11-19 year olds. The Youth Club meets every Saturday from 3-5pm in term time, it is a safe place to have fun, make new friends and try new things.

Sunrise Multicultural Project support people from various ethnic groups in Banbury and the surrounding area, and more recently asylum seekers and refugees who have moved to the area. We aim to help people socialise, make friends and take part in activities within the groups and Banbury community. The project runs children’s Saturday Clubs, youth clubs, ladies drop in groups and ESOL classes.

OCCAC exists to serve the Chinese community in Oxfordshire by providing independent quality advice and services that enable them to gain equal access to public resources, improve their quality of life, and integrate into society. OCCAC also provides health and mental health talks, and supports mental health clients and their carers. Peer support groups are run by the organisation in Oxford and Abingdon, and telephone advice is given Mondays 10am to 4pm.

The Muslim Community Helpline is a confidential, non-judgemental listening and emotional support service.
